AB 515 - Amends Vehicle Code Section Relating to Release of Towed Vehicles

Assembly Bill 515 (hereinafter “AB 515”) makes substantive and clarifying changes to sections of the Collateral Recovery Act and Vehicle Code that regulate recovery of towed vehicles. Specifically, AB 515 amends Vehicle Code Section 22658 to add a new subsection (q), related to a tow company’s release of a vehicle. Under the new provision, documents presented to secure release may be originals, photocopies, facsimile copies, or transmitted electronically. AB 515 further requires facilities where impounded vehicles are stored to accept valid credit cards and bank debit cards as forms of payment.
